Gli anni '80 fanno saltare il Santa Giuliana

Un concerto esplosivo quello di ieri sera al Santa Giuliana. Apertura affidata al groove potente dalle note funk con contaminazioni disco dei Brand New Heavies. La folla, quasi tutta in piedi, balla e salta sulle note di pezzi storici che dopo quasi venti anni ancora riescono a scaldare ed emozionare. La band inglese che ieri ha fuso jazz, funk e soul è stata la sorpresa trascinante di questo ultimo sabato di Umbria Jazz.

Non ci si aspettava una risposta così attenta e partecipata di una platea che ha resistito pochi brani al richiamo del palco, col pubblico che si è ben presto accalcato sotto i musicisti. Ed è in quel momento che i Brand sono decollati, trascinati dal basso funk di Andrew Levy e dalla chitarra quasi rock di Simon Bartholomew. Sul palco, sono sfilati groove e sound di una decade con pezzi come Dream on dreamer e You are the universe, valorizzati anche dalla nuova voce: Dawn Joseph.

Dopo i Brand New Heavies è stato il turno degli Incognito, certezza del panorama musicale capaci di creare un sound unico e riconoscibile. Con una formazione estesa comprendente una sezione di fiati e dei coristi, oltre a basso, batteria, percussioni, chitarra e tastiere, hanno presentato il loro ultimo album, "Amplified soul".

Grazie alle due band inglesi ieri si è voluto riscoprire un movimento che oggi è sopravvissuto e più vivo che mai, e sempre in costante evoluzione
